Bill Pray on Elliott/Novell – What Might Happen to GroupWise |
Thursday, 11 March 2010 |
Check out this blog by Bill Pray, previous GroupWise Product Manager, on the future of GroupWise. What-if...
The bid by Elliott for Novell has lead to speculation on what may happen should the buyout be successful. Blogs from Drue Reeves ( Novell Going Private?) and Richard Jones ( Elliott/Novell: Implications on SUSE) have highlighted their observations. Having been a former Novell employee and product manager for GroupWise, I want to take the opportunity to add my observations on what might happen to Novell’s communications and collaboration technologies should the buyout occur.
GroupWise has been a solid, mature, feature rich, enterprise solution for many years. |

With each release of the product - support packs included - we meet
with Product Management, Testing, Engineering, Sales, NTS and IS&T
to evaluate and discuss which platforms we can add and which platforms
we can remove with the upcoming release of the product. There are
several challenges and things to consider. |

GroupWise TCO - finally we have it |
Tuesday, 10 March 2009 |
TCO. Total Cost of Ownership. Something that I think about immediately when someone starts talking about the costs of Exchange. And, as some of you might know, I maintain a special page on GWCheck about how to compare GroupWise and Exchange, called " keep your enemies closer".
Until shortly, there was no official publication about the TCO for GroupWise. I've been waiting for such documents to show for years. And almost every GroupWise product manager has failed to do it. Why ? Dunno. It's really a useful tool to have when you are selling or proving GroupWise is the right collaboration tool. Aren't we all ? Not just saying "it's the Linux way, so it must be cheaper". |
