Cobus Burgers (ZA), one of our expert speakers, mentions:
Failed implementations of IT solutions and other problems are almost
alwasy due to the fact that engineers are not yet properly equipped to
manage these latest technologies.
It doesn't matter if you implement GroupWise, Open Enterprise Server on
Linux, ZENworks or even Exchange 2008, if you have not been educated,
you will run into serious trouble. The same goes for all new
technologies, and we have found that the IT industry is very guilty of
this.
People are not updating their skills, and they are not up to date with
the latest developments, but companies are still prepared to spend
millions in migrating to new platforms, but they are just moving all
the problems to the new platform without gaining any real benefit.
We need to start to implement the same standards the medical industry
has where medical practitioners are required to keep themselves up to
date as part of their profession.
That is why events such as Open-Horizons are critical to fast track skills over a wide range of topics. |
