Our Hands-On Labs
Our
Hands-On labs are the big difference with any other event - our
speakers create them specifically for this event and they work with all
attendees on specially prepared laptops to create the most interactive
learn-by-doing experience available.
Icons - For your convenience, we've earmarked all labs with these icons , indicating the intended target audience. You can read more about this classification at this page. |
|
|
Please note: not all labs will be offered in each location. The offering of labs is
based on the selection of the attendees as well as speaker
availability. The sooner you sign up and select your labs, the bigger
the change your choice will be selected.

Our Teaming + Conferencing Labs |
|
|
   Lab190 - Installing & Deploying Novell Teaming |
| Novell Teaming + Conferencing is 'the' collaboration product from Novell. It
includes both asynchronous and synchronous collaboration features such as
document management, web conferencing, VoIP telephony, wikis, blogs, tasks,
calendars, instant messaging and more. In this Hands-On labs you will learn how
to install deploy Teaming in an heterogeneous environment and making use of your
current infrastructure. You will install the Teaming server, configure
authentication against an existing LDAP directory, configure in and outbound
e-mail and configure access to your existing document stores. If time allows we
will also discuss the installation of the conferencing server.
|
Our ZENworks Labs |
|
|
   Lab750 - ZENworks 10 - Installation, Configuration, Discovery, and Deployment |
In this Hands-On lab we will start with a review of ZENworks Configuration Management, including architecture, terms, and other things you need to know as a foundation. We will focus on installing the core ZENworks services and configure the required services so that the system will be fully functional. From there we will discover devices that will be managed by the ZENworks infrastructure. You will learn how to target these devices, and automatically deploy and install the ZENworks Adaptive Agent. Next we will have a look at software delivery, policy management, inventory, and
remote management and we will dive deeper into the
configuration and functionality of the different components of the
ZENworks family including Zone settings, software delivery, inventory
collection, reporting, license compliance, usage, remote control, and
security management.

Lab760 - ZENworks Application Virtualization and Configuration Management |
In this lab you will create virtualized applications to run in an
isolated environment which is immune to conflicts with internal
applications. Each virtualized application is packaged with all
application files, settings, runtimes, and components needed to run
immediately. Applications act just like they would if they were
installed locally, but your operating system, registry and run-time
environments remain unchanged. This makes deployment much easier, with
more security and less work for the IT department. We will then use ZENworks Configuration Management to deliver these virtualized applications to the right users on hardware that meets the requirements. All in all, this lab will show you how Application Virtualization can streamline the creation and full deployment of business critical applications.

   Lab250 - Optimizing Servers for GroupWise |
| Installing GroupWise on either Netware, Linux or Windows has always been a "piece of cake" and the new install routine which is part of GroupWise 8 makes things even easier. However, you should certainly take some extra steps before and after the installation. In this lab our speakers will guide you through the many pre- and post installation tasks which will make your GroupWise system even faster and more reliable than it already is by default. Optimizing webservices, locking down Apache, optimizing the file system, freeing up server memory and much more, it will all help to make GroupWise run even better than before. | |
|
   Lab050 - Clustering GroupWise on Linux |
| Ever wanted to know how to set up a GroupWise cluster on top of Novell Cluster Services? In this lab you will build a GroupWise cluster yourself and learn some tips & tricks along the way. Also, get to know the pitfalls when you are building the GroupWise cluster and how to avoid them. NCS is provided with Open Enterprise Server 2, so why not use this marvelous piece of technology to provide high availability to your end-users on top of your favorite system: SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10. | |
|
Lab430 - Choose, Test & Configure Best Linux File System for GroupWise
|
| GroupWise runs as well on Linux as it runs on Netware and Windows servers and perhaps even better. However, almost every project implementing GroupWise on Linux includes a discussion about "the best Linux file system for GroupWise". In this lab our world famous speakers together with the attendees will dive deep into this matter, with the aim to choose, test and configure the Best File System for GroupWise. Make sure to join this important lab, it will worth your while! | |
|
Lab770 - Configuring Domain Services for Windows |
| One of the most important new features in Novell Open Enterprise Server
2 SP1, is Domain Services for Windows (DSfW). This new product offers
Novell customers the option to avoid installing Active Directory (AD)
and offer AD services through eDirectory. This means that you no longer
are forced to install AD just to run a specific application on your
server. In the DSfW lab, you will learn about the possibilities and
impossibilities of DSfW, about when you can use it and when you can't.
You will install and configure DSfW in a new Directory tree and
configure this AD look-a-like for file sharing and other services.
|
Lab790 - Moving from Netware to Open Enterprise Server Linux - The Easy Way
|
Many organizations are still using Netware and that's perfectly fine - it is a great server platform which will be there for many more years. However, the reality is that Linux is the way to go for new installations and this session presents all the necessary tools, trips and techniques to migrate the IT services of any organization to OES Linux. The philosophy for this lab is to make sure that the skills and knowledge of Netware administrators are not wasted, on the contrary, their new Linux based environment should give them the same comfort level as their Netware servers did - for many years to come.

Our Groupwise Labs |
|
|
   Lab310 - Pimp Your WebAccess - Customization & Personalization |
|
GroupWise WebAccess is one of the major accesspoints for GroupWise, without installing any client you can easily read and answer mails, check appointments or use proxy to access the mailbox of other users. However, does WebAccess fit into your companies environment? As an example, do we really need to use the American way of notation for a date (mmddyy)? Does your week start on Sunday or Monday? More of real life examples are the base for this lab, which teaches you how to customize Webaccess to fit to your environment:
- Influence the appearance of GroupWise WebAccess (colors, logo, ...) - how
to reshape it to fit your corporate identity
- Influence WebAccess to follow localization - for example to have a
different "first day of week"
- Influence the behavior of your WebAccess - for example not allowing users to attach files to e-mails - virus protection!
You can do all of this and much more!
