The virtualisation of server infrastructures is common practice these days and delivers many advantages. Of course these new technologies also require some changes to the management of IT environments. One of the new challenges is the backup of virtual servers. At first sight, this is no extra challenge, as the backup of servers is a common task in every IT department. But with the introduction of virtualisation and clustered virtualised environments there are additional opportunities, and pitfallls.

After months of preparation which started in November 2010 Attachmate yesterday finalized the deal to acquire Novell. Jeff Hawn, Chairman and CEO of The Attachmate Group as well as others within Novell have made public statements that the deal is closed and that the integration of Novell and SUSE within the Attachmate Group will allow the new organisation  to move forward with new energy to deliver even better solutions and services than ever before.

We’re seeing a lot of great interest in Vibe OnPrem since the release of version 3 last December. That release was a significant improvement over previous releases of Novell Teaming. For those of you who are not aware, Novell Teaming was rebranded to Novell Vibe OnPrem late last year. The version 3 release introduced great new capabilities around document management, branding, landing pages, profiles, wikis, integrations with Novell Messenger and a modern new interface that is helping organisations and users adopt the solution much more effectively.

On March 17th, Open Horizons set foot on American soil for the first time with a local event in Indianapolis. After the success of what has been going on in EMEA and making initial contacts in the US at BrainShare 2010, it was no more than a logical consequence that this first event had to happen. The initial idea was to fit in this event before BrainShare, which
originally was scheduled to start on Sunday 20th. Unfortunately, BrainShare was postponed, but since Erno and myself wanted to run the Moab half marathon and actually got admitted through lottery (a chance of 1 in 10), we decided to proceed with this project and head West anyway.
