With the cancellation of BrainShare last year, a lot of people shared
ideas on how to make BrainShare better, attractive. You could read all
those ideas on serveral sites, blogs, etc... And the main undertone
was, make it a technical event, like it was in the past. So, Back to
the roots. In all communication before this event Novell made it clear, Brainshare was going back to the roots. It's easy to use this slogan, what about reality?
What are the main questions people ask you at BrainShare? How was your day? Any good sessions? How was the training? Anything new? ... And, yes most people are happy with the technical level at this conference. During this BrainShare there are a lot of half day ATT trainings. And it looks like Novell, and then I mean the trainers, are doing a good job. We as Open Horizons know how difficult it can be to find good trainers, and the trainers know that it is not easy to create interesting labs. I spoke with attendees that joined the ATT trainings, and they really learn things and the technical level is at the level they expect it. So, an A for ATT!
How was your day you could ask? Started with a Partner Breakfast End User Computing, received an update on the current state of the different products an a view into the near and longterm future. Then Troubleshooting Access Manager, not easy but usefull. I don't know how they can keep up in the Linux world with all those logfiles, and with Access Manager there are a lot. But that's what you get with 'managers'. :-)
Because I cannot help myself, I had to test Novell Conferencing. Organised 3 meetings, one with my family (no Skype anymore, no phone call, no GroupWise Messenger), one with our sales in Belgium to discuss a proposal for a customer (with desktop sharing to look at all documents) and finaly a meeting with a customer who was already looking for this kind of solution. And the reactions? Family could use it without any 'training' (ok, my thirteen old daugther had to help my wife), sales guy was impressed, and the customer could not believe it could be that easy.
For those who know how the BrainShare network can be, all those people on a big wireless network, well, Novell Conferencing managed to stay stable with audio and video in line. Tomorrow the last day, yes, one day shorter then the previous conferences. But who cares, it's the quality that counts, not the quantity!
