Overview of the Hands-On Labs

Here are some of the advantages of the Hands-On labs at the Regional Summits:
  • Each lab will be presented by international and local experts, to make sure that help in your own language is always available.
  • Each labroom will be equipped with a laptop for each attendee.
  • All laptops are fully equipped and prepared to maximize time spend in the labs.
  • Each attendee will receive a free USB harddrive with the labs that will be attended. This way the labs can also be practised back at the office or at home.

Lab260 - ZENworks 10 - Installation, Configuration, Discovery, and Deployment
In this first Hands-On lab we will start with a review of ZENworks Configuration Management, including architecture, terms, and other things you need to know as a foundation. We will then focus on installing the core ZENworks services. We will configure the required services so that the system will be fully functional. From there we will discover devices that will be managed by the ZENworks infrastructure. You will learn how to target these devices, and automatically deploy and install the ZENworks Adaptive Agent. The work done in this lab day will build the foundation for activities that we will do in the second lab 270.

Lab270 - ZENworks Core Services
In this second lab we will focus on how you can leverage core services provided by ZENworks. These include software delivery, policy management, inventory, and remote management. Each area of focus will include hands-on labs where you will perform the work yourself. We will dive deeper into the configuration and functionality of the different components of the ZENworks family including Zone settings, software delivery, inventory collection, reporting, license compliance, usage, remote control, and security management. We will spend the bulk of the time demonstrating the different components, and discuss other items such as server and agent architecture.

There are many pitfalls when you are trying to back up a Novell GroupWise system, not to mention when you're trying to restore it! This lab will give you hands on experience how to make sure you have a 100-percent valid backup of your favorite e-mail system. You will also learn how to restore complete systems as well as individual items. At the end of this lab you will be able to make a good backup and efficiently use the tools available, such as snapshots, TSAs and third-party solutions.

Lab310 - Customizing WebAccess  
GroupWise WebAccess is one of the major accesspoint for GroupWise. Because no client preparation is needed it is the easiest way to read and answer mails, check appointments or access via proxy to additional data. But does this portal fit to your companies environment? For example, do we really have to use the American way of notation for a date (mmddyy)? Is our week starting with Sunday or with Monday? More of these kind of requests from real life will be the base for this lab, which teaches you how to customize Webaccess to fit to your environment.

Lab320 - How to Monitor GroupWise  
As GroupWise has grown in sophistication, the need to keep track of the many parts of the system has become more important. Usually monitoring will be used if there are problems and usually we need more data or history to tell why there are troubles. The GroupWise Monitor is a free and a very powerful monitoring tool - so use it. "How to Monitor GroupWise" will tell you what you have to do to maintain your monitor. But this lab will you also show how powerful reports can be - not just for troubleshooting but also for a better design or planning future investments.
